Jennifer Forrister is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a National Certified Counselor. She received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from BerryCollege, a Master of Science in Professional Counseling & an Education Specialist degree in Professional Counseling from GeorgiaStateUniversity.
Jennifer has been practicing since 2002 and has clinical experience including working as a therapist at NorthsideHospital, AnchorHospital, and a substance abuse facility. Jennifer has a wide array of experience working with adults and adolescents both individually, in couple's therapy, and in groups. Her areas of specialty include treatment for adults with severe and persistent mental illness including schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and PTSD. Jennifer also specializes in treatment for substance abuse, stress management, anger management, and codependency. Jennifer offers a 12-week curriculum for anger management to meet court ordered requirements, as well as Drug & Alcohol Assessments. Jennifer is also a Certified Psychosocial Rehabilitation Practitioner.
Jennifer approaches therapy from a humanistic theoretical viewpoint, with the goal of assisting clients to find meaning in their lives by addressing needs of the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) in a safe environment. In addition, Jennifer employs methods of cognitive behavioral therapy to assist clients in recognizing personal thought patterns causing distress. Cognitive behavioral therapy assists clients to learn new ways of thinking about, responding to, and perceiving the world. When applicable, Jennifer teaches new skills to improve relationships and management of stress.
